Sensationalism Is Not Sustainable

We still don’t know how or why 20.9 million people are in forced labor globally. Many forced labor, or human trafficking campaigns, and documentaries are heavily political, moral and sensational, disregarding cultural sensitivity and empirical data. Combining research and the personal experiences of immigrants from all over Latin America, Makeshift Americas illustrates the bigger picture of forced labor, helping to connect the dots in this seemingly labyrinthine system of migration, class, gender and race.
